Cranksgiving 2012

This write up is a couple weeks late, was out of town then just got busy getting back to the grind. Anyway, Cranksgiving Omaha 2012 took place on Saturday, November 17th. The weather was just about perfect this year. Temps were in the high 40s to 50s and some of the riders were even wearing shorts. Yeah, that warm!

In our group, we had Dave and his brother Chris, Brian, Paul, Dale, Eric, and myself.

This is now my third year of doing Cranksgiving and its always a good time! The food and money raised was donated to the food bank. This year, 675 lbs were donated by riders and probably even some non riders. Kudos goes to Dale R for bringing in the requested items AND 4 turkeys. Way to go Dale!

Once again, we hit the trail and rode down the Big Papio trail. We made our first stop at Trader Joe's.  The wind was definitely not helping our cause on the way down. We of course know the rules, 10 items from 10 different stores. But we're not out to win the race. Just out to get the miles in. Because of a shortage on time (Husker game at 2:30!), we truncated our ride this year and headed back towards the Target on Maple after hitting up Trader Joe's. This time, the wind was helping and we were flying down the trail! We probably made record time heading back.

The goody table, tons of stuff to win in the raffle!

Things to get this year were pancake mix, pasta and sauce, canned fruits and veggies, Mac and cheese, rice, and a few other things. No big bulky multipack of toilet paper this year! Whew! Thanks to all the volunteers who put together this event, the sponsors and stores / people that donated the items for the raffle, Bike Masters for letting us invade their space, and to all of the riders and non riders who participated. Looking forward to 2013!

Paul was the big winner this year!
