Last weekend, THOR held their 2nd annual BYOK - Bring Your Own Kid mountain biking. After hearing about last year's great success out at Manawa, I decided to lend a helping hand and to see what all the buzz was about. After unloading everything from Dave P's party wagon, Dave N & P, Paul, and Brian helped to mark out the course at Swanson for the kiddos to ride. Since I did not bring a bike, I stayed back and helped Roxy and Tom set up the picnic area.
As we were putting everything in place, blowing up balloons, etc, a few of the parents started to roll in with their kids. Devo also joined in on the festivities. There wasn't a large number of kids that came to ride, at least not as many as we had hoped. This may have partly been due to the rainy forecast, the Lucky Bucket Brewery Ride afterwards, the haunted kids ride going on later that day, and also the mt bike ride at Swanson that afternoon. Oh yeah, and that amazing NU game against Ohio State. Probably just a combo of too many things going on that day along with a rainy forecast which made for a low turnout. Not too good when there are more volunteers than there were kids riding. Oh well. The kids that did make it had a great time. Biking was done, smores were made, and lots of brisket was eaten. Thanks to THOR and all of the volunteers that made the event happen!
