And then sometimes this happens

And you're miles away from home. And you have no tools or cell phone on you. Just your two feet and a hand. The hand because you need to lift the rear of the 35 lb bike all the way home because the rear wheel is now decentered and rubbing against the frame. Grrr...the great stories of riding a vintage SS!

I should probably get some locktite and put some on to prevent the rear hub from slipping again.

Uh oh, things just got real.

Real for salsa that is because now they have competition for my money! Salsa bucksaw, full suspended fat. 9zero7, fat bike full suspension in prototype stage. Get some....

This is brilliant!

How many times have you lost your commuter light at the bottom of your bag, car, work bench, etc etc? Well, why not a magnetic light! Seriously I can never find my rear taillight especially before running out the door for a taco ride or pavement ride. This would solve all that!

Kites!

Not the dollar crap you buy from Hy-Vee. But the massive ones that cost big bucks and require a decent amount of breeze to get up in the air. These were out in Elkhorn the other weekend.  I recently bought a kite (small enough to fit in my suitcase!) and had it going on the beach at Myrtle Beach. Fun and great time although I need to modify it just a little bit.

There's some new fat in town!

I'm not jealous yet...yet I say. But getting close. New colors, wheel sizes and brands, and lighter carbon fatbikes are slowly surrounding me on the trail. So many choices! But that's a good thing! I hope it's a while before someone brings around the Bluto suspension fork on their fatbike. I say this because I just might have to jump on THAT bandwagon!

Yeah sometimes we ride other nights!

Mondays...A long weekend often equates to a crappy day at work on Monday. The day is long and nobody really wants to be there. A good ride with friends afterwards always helps to set the mood for the rest of the week. But what happens when an impromptu ride gets set up for any other day other than Monday? Well...you just ride of course!

Wow. I guess deer do have to pee.

And then they rode off into the sunset...

Ernest bikes off the pounds

Pretty cool story that came across my FB account. Guy weighing 500 lbs bikes off 240 lbs and eventually tries a cyclocross race. How cool is that? Even I have never tried a cyclocross race. Congrats to him for having the courage and the willpower to forego the bypass surgery and do something about his weight instead.

Time to mow and I see this...

Bam. Next thing I know I have 103 pictures that I took. Still need to mow. I could sit there watching that thing all night. A couple nights ago there were about 5 hummingbirds on this same plant. Couldn't figure out my big flash on the camera. Ha.

Another good MNR

It rained the day before...the dust on the trail has been tamed. Elise and I made it out to this week's MNR where there was a very good turnout. Pizza showed up afterwards as did good times. I might have pushed Elise a little too hard, as was evident on the Camelhumps. Whoops.

Salsa...Buck...Saw!!!

More reviews and good stuff about the full suspension fatbike by Salsa. The Bucksaw. Maybe they should send me one to review for all you readers. While they're at it, they should send me an El Mariachi Ti just to try out. I would be a very happy boy!

26 x 4.0 tires only. No 29+ and no super fat clown riding stuff. I'm good with all of that.

Hmmm...open top feel. 173hp with vehicle only weighing 1700 lbs. Like a Can-am but probably more fun. This might be a really fun vehicle to own!

My five days of biking

Somehow with the weather being nice and having a new old bike to ride, I managed to squeeze in a straight five days of riding. Not sure that I've ever had the chance to do that before. They weren't epic rides or anything technical or difficult. I was just proud of myself for getting on the bike five nights in a row after work.

Day 1 started off with a MNR with the gang. Gorgeous weather made for a good ride and good times.

Day two consisted of a spin around the block. And by that I mean riding to Standing Bear Lake and back. I must be doing okay on the single speed Schwinn because a rider behind me commented that he couldn't keep up with me and was wondering how I was able to do so well on the bike. I said lots of trail riding my friend!

Day 3 was a ride down to The Arctic Monkeys at Stir concert cove with Elise and Cody. Can you say awesome show with free tickets in? Woohoo!

You guys need some tickets into the show? Yes please!

Why'd you only call me when you're high?

Avoid this, ride your bike!

And get amazing views of the Omaha skyline

Day four was a quick spin around Tranquility. Got to mix it up on the trails and off! It was so dusty, even the weeds were brown.

Day five and my final day of riding was bike fishing. Two things that I find relaxing and love to do.
Unfortunately I didn't catch anything. But I really didn't care! I biked and I was by the lake fishing.

A slow and hot MNR

Yowser it was a hot one yesterday. Its been a weird summer with temps in the 70s and 80s over the past few months. And then welcome to 96 degrees! Its a Monday. Crap! Time to go ride!

I missed the group by about 20 minutes but saw them coming back on the return route from NoFo side. Should I join them or just go at my own easy pace. My own pace is what I chose. It was hot. I stopped to drink my water. Stopped to take pics. I think even the animals and insects knew it was hot because they were slow moving too. Bunnies galore not moving off the trail, butterflies waiting till the last second to fly away. Everything was trying to beat the heat.

Sometimes going slow is a good thing. It opens up your senses to whats around you. The car with the bass attack going up Fort Street. The purple flowers just before the Fort Street loop. The branches that need to be removed and the grass/weeds that need to be trimmed also presented themselves to me. Consider this my nature walk. Its these times that you realize either how smooth your bike is rolling or if its making the squeaks and the rattles.

Fun times. Paul was a sick boy so we stopped over at Chris' place afterwards. Thank Dale for the Apple cider. Was delicious!

Finally a nice MNR with no rain!

Two weeks ago, MNR got rained out. This past Monday...perfect weather! The trail was dusty, people were out, and the times were good. PacMan was back on his bike, he's been MIA for about half a year! The usual turkeys and bunnies were in my way. But all was good!

Hopped on my Schwinn after the MNR and spun a lap around the block. Might have the possibility for some cool pics! Not gonna lie, the handlebar position takes some getting use to. Even riding one handed made me feel a little nervous when I took the pics.
